BMR
Also known as: Basal Metabolic Rate
What it actually is
BMR accounts for 60–75% of TDEE. It depends on weight, height, age, sex, and lean body mass. Higher muscle = higher BMR. Severe calorie restriction lowers BMR — one reason crash diets fail.
Why it matters for Pakistanis
BMR is why building muscle helps weight management long-term — every kg of muscle burns ~13 kcal/day at rest. Protein + resistance exercise raises BMR sustainably.
