Added Sugar
Also known as: Free Sugar
What it actually is
Includes white sugar, brown sugar, jaggery, honey, maple syrup, glucose, fructose, corn syrup. WHO recommends under 25g (6 tsp) per day for adults. Most Pakistanis consume 12–25 tsp daily — mostly through chai, biscuits, sweetened drinks, and mithai.
Why it matters for Pakistanis
If you cut only one thing, cut added sugar. It's the fastest path to lowering HbA1c, insulin resistance, fatty liver, and weight. Naturally occurring sugar in whole fruit and milk is fine.
